How can a direct access Barrister assist?
A direct access Barrister is subject to strict practice requirements as set out by the Bar Standards Board. A direct access Barrister can provide legal advice and/or represent members of the public in family law children matters. The practicing arrangements allow him to assist you from the commencement of an application to the conclusion of proceedings.

Information about Barristers costs and services
At the commencement instructions received a fixed fee is quoted on the basis of the papers and information received from the client.
The fixed fee will be set out in a client care letter. The fixed fee if requested may cover both the cost of case preparation and representation.
The cost of instructing a Direct Access Barrister is generally some 30% to 40% cheaper than instructing solicitors. The nature of the fee may be increased or varied on receipt of further papers.
Types of work which can be carried out by a Direct Access Barrister
A Direct Access Barrister is allowed to, Provide written advice upon reading documents about a persons case Advice in conference either face to face, on the phone or by video link. Can appear on your behalf in court. Provide legal advice on the stages to be taken in proceedings and draft documents relevant to each stage in proceedings. Drafting legal documents such as witness statements, schedules and position statements together with formal letter.
Some differences remain between Solicitors and Barristers and what each profession can do. You should always read the Bar Standard Board’s Guidance before using a Barrister rather than a Solicitor as not every case is suitable for Direct Access work.
